MIZU DESIERTO | FARM DANCE RETREATS

I discover work through observations of fleeting moments….precious and difficult. daily and ecstatic. This is why I must create—because it is one of the truest places for me to know the depth, complexity and beauty of all it means to be human. It is the place I can be the most honest, the most free of social conventions and boxes, and the most natural me. I am drawn to raw and rough expression, experiences that make me unsure of whether I am laughing or crying, and bodies/minds/actions on the edge of living. Multiple levels of engagement and exchange offered.

October 4-6 || FALL HARVEST FARM DANCE RETREAT: camp. farm. harvest. ritual. can. preserve. create. barter experience. Registration fee is for food and materials cost only, any additional contributions will benefit the land. @ Prior Day Farm. Sliding Scale $60-200

From right inside the city, let’s turn off our phones, turn off our lives and tune in to the land and to each other. Stepping out of the usual models of economic exchange, workshop participants will offer their time and labor to the land, and to the future visions of the farm in a barter of dance experiences, led by Mizu Desierto. Plan to put your feet deeply in the earth and invoke the primal, the hidden, and the healing. We might also dig a garden bed…clear a field of weeds…paint a fence…or deep clean a chicken coop. Expect an equal experience of work and dance…but also a blurring of the lines…can our work become dance? Can our dance become our work?

*For the retreats, participants are expected to stay at the farm and inside of the experience, as they would in an out-of-town retreat. We will turn off our phones and computers, in favor of spaces of silence and sharing. Participants will need to bring their own tents and sleeping bags. Food will be provided and we will cook together throughout the week.

For pricing we are inspired to use this model by Worts and Cunning. Please follow this link for credit and in-depth information on how it works.

The Sliding Scale: A Tool of Economic Justice

The sliding scale is a tool that allows for the services of our teachers to be obtained at multiple price points based on the circumstances of the purchaser. We believe that teachers deserve to get paid and students deserve classes which recognize the multiple realities of economic access and privilege that exist. Please refer to this graphic and do your best to truthfully select at the price point that most accurately fits your economic reality. There are a limited amount of slots for the two lower price points at the end of the scale. Please be mindful that if you register at the lowest end of the scale when you can truthfully afford a higher registration price, you are limiting access to those who truly need the gift of financial flexibility.
